About the program
Jinan University and Diablo Valley College,
in the interest of friendly relations and academic partnership,
have jointly organized a Chinese Language and Culture Program
for the summer in Jinan University of Shandong, China.
Experience China through its rich culture.
You’ll receive the finest instruction while enjoying a
once-in-a-lifetime adventure. This is a great college
experience and it is open to students over 18.
Diablo Valley College four-week intensive Chinese Language
program provides participants with an opportunity to
improve their Chinese language skills, get acquainted
with students in China, and learn more about the Chinese culture.
Accommodations
The Foreign Students' Building located in Jinan University
offers comfortable living and recreational facilities
and study areas for its tenants. The building is
centrally air-conditioned during the summer, and it is
also equipped with shared kitchens, washing machines,
card phones and an international fax machine.
Students will be accommodated in shared rooms with
private bathrooms, color TV, telephones, necessary
study facilities and internet access.
The dining room provides basic Chinese and western food
(all 3 meals are included).
Readily accessible in the neighborhood are markets,
a mall, restaurants (KFC, McDonald’s), post offices,
cinemas and an efficient bus system that provides
transportation to downtown areas and the railway station.

About Jinan University
Jinan University
of Shandong is a comprehensive
university accredited by the Ministry of Education.
It is jointly supported and build by the Shandong
Provincial and Jinan Municipal Governments.
Its enrollment is made up of students from throughout
China and it was founded in 1948. Jinan University
provides undergraduate and graduate education,
approved by the Degree Commission of State Council.
The unique setting of the program provides a true cultural
experience for incoming students. The Program is designed
exclusively for students in Diablo Valley College.
About Shandong Province
Shandong province, on the east coast of China,
traversed by the lower reaches of the Yellow River,
is one of the cradles of Eastern civilization.
The brilliant Yellow River culture produced the
greatest educator and thinker China has ever known,
Confucius. The famous historical city Qufu is steeped
in the spirit of Confucius; Qi Great Wall
(the earliest part of China’s great wall). The capital
city Jinan, is famous for its springs,
with the Yellow River to its north and Mount Tai
to its south; within the city itself are picturesque
lakes and mountains.
Intensive Chinese courses offered are UC and CSU transferable.
About the Instructor
Professor Sheree Lin, a native of Shandong Province, China,
and Taiwan, is a fully tenured professor and former chairperson
of the Foreign Languages Department at Diablo Valley College.
Ms. Lin has written teaching materials for and taught traditional
nd classical Chinese language, literature, and culture for the
ast thirty years at universities and colleges in both Taiwan and
he United States. Besides being an accomplished public speaker,
he is a former reporter for the widely distributed World Journal Chinese
anguage newspaper. Ms. Lin has a fertile background in the arts as a
ublished play writer, novelist, and author of children’s books, for
which she has received numerous awards, and as the creator of a cable
television instructional program in the Mandarin language for CSU, Hayward.
