About the program
The most effective system for learning a foreign language
is total immersion. Historic, lovely Salamanca, Spain, one
of the world’s most famous centers of learning. You will
receive the finest instruction while enjoying a once in-a-lifetime
adventure.
Our special DVC program gives students the opportunity to
practice their Spanish as well as enjoy the cultural wonders
of Spain. Students return with an appreciation of their
own country as well as a new respect for the language and culture.
About the School
Letra Hispanica - Escuela de Lengua y Cultura Española offers
highly personalized instructions in the Spanish language, making
students feel like part of the community. The school is located
in the heart of the city of Salamanca adjacent to its century old
university. The setting of the program provides a true cultural
experience and the opportunity to practice conversational Spanish.
Students from around the world choose this city for its exceptional
cultural values. This program is designed exclusively for students
at Contra Costa Community College District.
About the City
The Castilian city of Salamanca was declared by the UNESCO a
“World Heritage Site” for its untouched architectural purity.
In this beautiful city, you will be able to enjoy baroque religious
and historical structures such as the Cathedral and the City Hall.
Other places to visit are the famous “Casa de las Conchas” now a
lovely library, the Roman Bridge, and the plaza named by famed writer
James Michener the best in Spain, the “Plaza Mayor”. Our students will
use the square as a place to relax study, socialize and meet heir friends
beneath the clock. This is the life of the Spaniards!
Accommodations
Staying with a Spanish family is an integral part of our program,
not only for the hospitality, but also as an additional first-hand
way to experience the culture of Spain.
Families are carefully selected in advance and supervised throughout
your stay. Most homes are within walking distance of the school
facilities and near public transportation.
Family housing programs include accommodations and 3 meals per day.
Intensive Spanish courses offered are UC and CSU transferable.
