CREATING AN O.D.B.C.

(Open Database Connectivity) CONNECTION FOR DB2 DATABASES

You will need to create an ODBC connection to your DB2 database in order to pull information from the Data Warehouse.

Go to the Client Configuration Assistant

Choose Add (if you already have databases registered).  If your Client Configuration screen is empty, the program will automatically take you to the Add option.

Choose to Manually configure a connection.  Next>

Choose TCP/IP then Next>

Make sure the Hose name is 207.21.34.246 and the Port number is 50008, then Next>

Your database name will be “K12_xxxx” with the xxxx equal to your district four-digit number.  The Database alias is the name that you want to refer to the database by.  This name is comprised of a maximum of eight characters.  If your district is Antioch, my suggestion is to use the alias ANTIOCH.  If your district is John Swett, you could set your alias to JOHNSWET or SWETT.  The Comment area is optional and describes your database.  Next>

Make sure that Register for ODBC is checked.  And the option ‘As a system data source’ should be chosen.  Next>

Check Configure Node Options.  This will allow you to fill in the rest of the fields.  System name is dante, Instance name is db2inst3,  Comment is optional, and Operating system is HP-UX.  Next>

You don’t need to do anything on this screen, so press Finish.

In order to make sure you have setup your connection correctly, press Test Connection.

You will be asked to log in to your database.  If you do this and you get a message that says that the connection test was successful, then you are ready to use your database.  If it is unsuccessful, go back and check your settings.  If that doesn’t resolve your problem, call your contact at the district office for troubleshooting help.
