We will look at Profcast because it seamlessly captures your narration of Powerpoint or Keynote slides, creating a chapter-indexed movie for easy review. Snapz Pro X will be previewed because this program records all material on your computer screen and also allows you to narrate about it. Moving on to audio and video office hour and video-conference options, we’ll look at CCC Confer and Skype (for practical usage and as a way to talk to our friends for free!). This material can easily be added to WebCT or linked from it, so consider taking the WebCT workshop as well.

Resiliency in Action

Wednesday November 4, 2009 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Staff Development Conference Room

When it seems that “the job” is what an unsatisfying life is all about, chances are it's not about the job; it's about our personal abilities to cope, thrive, and own up to our responsibilities. No matter the economic conditions or other high stress situations affecting us, our role is to take care of our health. Resiliency is generally defined as strength in the midst of change and stressful life events; the ability to spring back from and successfully adapt to adversity. This training provides participants with the opportunity to assess their individual qualities that facilitate resiliency and to determine how these qualities can best be applied to current life problems and stressors.

Friday November 6, 2009 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

DVC Art Gallery

A collection of new work by DVC faculty Fran Brown and Joy Broom features mixed media artwork that uses encaustic, or hot wax painting, which involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid or paste is then applied to a surface. Metal tools and special brushes can be used to shape the paint before it cools, or heated metal tools can be used to manipulate the wax once it has cooled onto the surface. Each artist approaches the application of encaustic painting differently. Fran Brown's work has a very painterly abstract quality while Joy Broom's work incorporates repurposed and found objects.
