There are many methods to develop multimedia material and I will highlight the easiest options, spending about 15 minutes on each program, then referencing web-based tutorials I’ve developed that will cover the step-by-step production of this material. We will look at Profcast because it seamlessly captures your narration of Powerpoint or Keynote slides, creating a chapter-indexed movie for easy review. Jing, Snapz Pro X, and Camtasia will be previewed because these programs records all material on your computer screen and also allows you to narrate about it. Moving on to audio and video office hour and videoconference options, we’ll look at Skype (for practical usage and as a way to talk to our friends for free!).

Many college students begin college without a strong academic foundation while juggling many personal and financial responsibilities. The complicated process of transfer from the community college to a 4-year institution can also be a daunting process. To tackle these problems, SFSU in collaboration with community college partners has launched the Metro Academies Initiative. Metro Academies are designed to increase college completion for low-income and first-generation students by coordinating course requirements and accelerating academic development during the first two years of college. The goal for Metro students at a community college is to complete both the two-year and the four-year degrees. Preliminary results from the first cohorts show very high rates of completion.

Jing, Snapz Pro X, and Camtasia will be previewed because these programs records all material on your computer screen and also allows you to narrate about it.
